Two saboteurs sentenced for attempted murder of a pro-Russian blogger in Crimea.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Crimea has rejected the appeals of two individuals convicted of attempting to assassinate a local blogger. The court upheld the original sentences, sending the defendants to strict-regime correctional colonies for 16 and 10 years, respectively.

Details of the Crime

The convicted men, unemployed and allegedly acting on orders from Ukrainian intelligence services, planned the murder of a Feodosia resident who had publicly supported Russia's military operations. For a payment of one million rubles, they planted an explosive device in a moped case and placed it near the victim's apartment building. The explosion on July 12, 2023, injured two bystanders.

In addition to the assassination attempt, one of the defendants was found guilty of setting fire to a car displaying the pro-Russian "Z" symbol parked in Feodosia.

Court's Decision

The court sided with the prosecution, dismissing the appeals and leaving the sentences unchanged. The Crimean Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the defendants will serve their terms in strict-regime colonies.

Broader Context

This case is part of a larger investigation into individuals linked to Ukrainian intelligence services accused of carrying out sabotage operations in Crimea. The FSB has previously disclosed the identities of several individuals involved in such activities, including those with codenames like "Seryi," "Aragorn," and "Murzik."

Meanwhile, the targeted blogger, who survived the assassination attempt, was later awarded by Crimean authorities for his public stance.
