In Novosibirsk, the Autumn Decade of the Elderly is in full swing, with over 400 events taking place as part of the 33rd edition of this annual tradition. The Department of Social Policy of the Novosibirsk City Administration is responsible for organizing the activities.
The International Day of Older Persons, celebrated worldwide on October 1st, is marked in Russia with a ten-day celebration. The grand event, "Autumn Melodies," which kicks off the Decade, took place at the V. Mayakovsky Concert Complex. Elderly people arrived an hour before the main event, socializing with each other, listening to songs, and taking photos in a beautiful autumn-inspired photo zone. Many couldn't resist dancing when the "Surprise" ensemble, led by Sergei Martyniuk, an honored artist of the Russian Federation, started performing in the lobby.
At the entrance to the venue, volunteers greeted elderly visitors and escorted them to their seats. Everyone was surrounded by care and attention, and they were all excited about the event, with familiar faces, elegant attire, and a festive atmosphere.
The large hall was filled to capacity, and the mayor of Novosibirsk, Maxim Kudryavtsev, welcomed all the attendees. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to everyone present and to the city's veteran residents for their work, professional contributions, and the strong foundation they have built for the city. He acknowledged their ongoing commitment to public service and active involvement in nurturing the younger generation.
Olya Potapova, the head of the Department of Social Policy of the Novosibirsk City Administration, highlighted that the city's achievements in scientific, educational, and industrial fields are the result of the efforts of veterans and the elderly, who worked tirelessly for the glory of their hometown. She emphasized the warmth, humanity, and wisdom that older people bring to society today.
Potapova thanked the city's veteran organizations, recognizing their pivotal role in ensuring targeted assistance and helping make the right managerial decisions that prioritize the care of the elderly and the social sphere. She assured everyone that the Department of Social Policy will continue to develop and strengthen its work in this area. She also reminded attendees that the city has a wide range of social support measures in place for veterans and pensioners.
The celebratory event continued with a concert featuring performances by various musical groups, including the NOVAT vocalists, the Novosibirsk State Philharmonic, the children's vocal ensemble "Kashalot," and the dance ensemble "Sibir."
The news was prepared as part of the implementation of the municipal program "Strengthening Public Health in the City of Novosibirsk" for the years 2021-2024. The program's activities aim to promote a healthy lifestyle among the city's residents.
