Prominent Russian artist Alexander Samsonov, recipient of the title of Meritorious Artist of Russia, passed away on May 27.

Alexander Samsonov, a Soviet and Russian singer and actor, passed away on May 27. He was born on May 11, 1935, in the village of Khaptagay in the Megino-Kangalassky District of the Yakutsk Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. The artist graduated from the vocal department of the Moscow State Conservatory in 1969. He worked at the Yakutsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre from his graduation until 2000.

The head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Aisen Nikolaev, announced Samsonov's demise on his official Telegram channel. "This is a great loss for the entire multicultural people of Yakutia, who sincerely loved and valued Alexander Parfenyevich," wrote Nikolaev. The republic's leader emphasized that the legendary performer and propagandist of songs from the war years were called the "Singer of Victory" by the people, and his songs inspired thousands of hearts.

"I am proud to have personally known this wonderful person. As long as Alexander Parfenyevich's songs are alive, as long as his voice resonates in the hearts of Yakuts, his memory will live on," added the official.
