A court in Moscow has halted the proceedings in the lawsuit filed by the husband of blogger Larchek (Valeria Chekalin) regarding the division of jointly acquired property. The court returned the claim to Artem Chekalin, the plaintiff, advising him to rectify the deficiencies in the application. According to the updated case card, the status of the lawsuit is now "not filed (May 29, 2024)." The court's decision was based on the failure to comply with the requirements set forth in Articles 131 and 132 of the Civil Procedure Code of the Russian Federation ("Form and Content of the Claim", "Documents Attached to the Claim").
Artem Chekalin's lawyer, Alexander Dobrovinsky, speculated that the blogger may not have attended the two scheduled court hearings on March 25 and April 12. Dobrovinsky also expressed concern that the tax authorities may not stop with the terminated criminal case against the Chekalins. Valeria's divorce suit will be reviewed on June 11, following a nearly two-month period granted to the spouses for reconciliation.
In January, Valeria and Artem Chekalin were charged with tax evasion of around 300 million rubles. Around the same time, a new criminal case was opened against the Chekalins for money laundering. However, the case regarding tax evasion was dropped after the Chekalins admitted guilt and fully reimbursed the tax arrears, penalties, and fines.
